Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy

Riley Hospital for Children Radiation Oncology at Indiana University Health at the Indiana University School of Medicine has a state-of-the-art three-channel Selectron low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy unit to treat cancers of the cervix, uterus and nasopharynx. The source container and control system are enclosed in a mobile unit which takes up minimum floor space. This LDR unit can be connected to a range of over 60 different applicators to enable low dose rate intracavitary treatment. Advantages include accurate information regarding treatment and exposure-free loading of sources, eliminating radiation exposure for visitors and medical staff. As a result, patients receive optimum nursing care and controlled radiation delivery while maintaining the advantages of low dose rate therapy.
