We are excited to have Dr. Hoesli back and look forward to the service she will provide at IU Health North
Dr. Tom Lock – Developmental Pediatrics
Tom comes to us from the University Of Oklahoma School of Medicine. He is board certified in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and will be seeing patients in our REACH, Developmental and Behavioral clinics. Dr. Lock’s wife, Dr. Kathleen O’Neil, has also joined the Riley family as the Section Director in Pediatric Rheumatology
Dr. Kathleen O’Neil – Rheumatology
Dr. O’Neil is well known nationally and internationally for her work in Pediatric Rheumatology. Kathleen did her undergraduate work at Wellesley College and attended Tufts University School of Medicine. She did her residency at Yale and Fellowship in Allergy/ Immunology and Pediatric Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins where she stayed for a post-doc in immunology. She was the director of Pediatric Rheumatology Services at the University of Maryland for 3 years, followed by 14 years in Buffalo where she established and ran the pediatric rheumatology section and her children became expert figure skaters! She moved to the University of Oklahoma in 2003 where her involvement in the Pediatric Rheumatology Research community began to grow.
Dr. O’Neil is very involved with the American College of Rheumatology, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Academy of Pediatrics Rheumatology Section and she was one of the founders of CARRA (the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Association). She has a long history of performing research and mentoring younger colleagues in their research. Her areas of interest include the pathogenesis of childhood lupus and development of puberty in children who have lupus. She has had a long standing interest in complement and phospholipid antibodies. She is heavily involved in clinical lupus research and has participated in dozens of multicenter studies over the years which have led to the approval of new medications for the treatment of children with rheumatic disease. She is interested in immunodeficiency, especially as it overlaps with rheumatic disease and the new category of autoinflammatory diseases.
Kathleen will lead the Section of Rheumatology into a new direction of prominence in research and clinical care! She
joins us along with her husband, Thomas Lock, a physician who will be joining the Section of Developmental Pediatrics.
