Organ Donation, Health Resources and Services Administration
A Division within the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration's Healthcare Systems Bureau, the Division of Transplantation (DoT) is the primary federal entity responsible for oversight of the organ and blood stem cell transplant systems in the U.S. and for initiatives to increase the level of organ donation in this country. The DoT is comprised of three branches: Grant Programs, Public and Professional Outreach and Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice.
United Network for Organ Sharing
A private, nonprofit organization that manages the nation's organ transplant system under contract with the federal government, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is involved in many aspects of the organ transplant and donation process including managing the national transplant wait list, matching donors to recipients and monitoring each organ match to ensure organ allocation policies are followed.
Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients
A research organization supporting the transplant community, SRTR provides analyses to improve transplant patient outcomes.
American Association of Tissue Banks
Founded in 1976, The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is a professional, nonprofit, scientific and educational organization. It is the only national tissue banking organization in the United States. Since its inception, AATB has been dedicated to improving and saving lives by promoting the safety, quality and availability of donated human tissue. To fulfill that mission, the organization publishes standards and accredits tissue banks. It certifies personnel and operates a tissue network. The association also interacts with regulatory agencies and conducts educational meetings.
Coalition on Donation
A 501(c)3 nonprofit alliance of national organizations and state teams across the United States committed to increasing organ, eye and tissue donation, Donate Life America manages and promotes the national brand for donation, Donate Life, and assists Donate Life State Teams and national partners in facilitating high-performing donor registries; developing and executing effective multi-media donor education programs; and motivating the American public to register now as organ, eye and tissue donors.
James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness
After film director James Redford waited six months for the donor liver that would save his life, he launched the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness (JRI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about the need for organ and tissue donation through film, educational outreach and the web.
National Kidney Foundation
The National Kidney Foundation, a major voluntary nonprofit health organization, is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
American Association for the Study of Liver Disease
Founded in 1950 by a small group of liver specialists, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) is the leading organization of scientists and healthcare professionals committed to preventing and curing liver disease.
American Heart Association
A U.S.-based nonprofit organization, The American Heart Association (AHA) fosters appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.
American Lung Association
Originally founded in 1904 as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, the American Lung Association (ALA) is a voluntary health organization whose mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
American Liver Foundation
The American Liver Foundation (ALF) was created in 1976 by an organization of concerned scientists and healthcare professionals as incidence of liver disease began to rise with lack of awareness among the general public and the medical community. Today, the (ALF) continues to educate the public and medical community about liver disease through 16 different divisions.
Indiana Organ Procurement Organization
Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO) is the nonprofit health service dedicated to advancing organ, tissue, and eye donation throughout Indiana.
Donate Life Indiana
Established in 1998, Donate Life Indiana is an alliance of agencies that exist to save and enhance lives by registering organ, eye, and tissue donors through the Indiana Donor Registry. Donate Life Indiana is the state affiliate for Donate Life America.
