Volunteer With Us
Volunteering at Indiana University Health Saxony Hospital
We are excited that you are interested in joining our team as a volunteer. At IU Health Saxony Hospital, our volunteers are one of our most valued resources. We know from experience that volunteers bring comfort to our patients and families and often aid in the healing process.
It is not necessary for you to have worked in a hospital or volunteered in a health care setting before. You need only a passion to serve others, and a commitment to helping IU Health Saxony Hospital make each and every guest visit an exceptional experience.
Most volunteer positions at IU Health Saxony Hospital require a minimum of a six-month commitment (minus family vacations, illness or other special situations), unless otherwise noted. We schedule volunteers for the same day and time each week to allow you and your service area to get to know each other.
Traditional Volunteers: Anyone over 18 years of age and not in school is considered to be a traditional volunteer.
Student Volunteers: High school and college students may volunteer at IU Health Saxony Hospital in the Guest Relations Department and are considered student volunteers. Volunteer opportunities for high school students are filled as positions become available. College students are eligible for any volunteer position a traditional volunteer may fill. All student volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and in high school. To be eligible for volunteering at the hospital, students must have an application on file and complete an interview to determine that their availability and service mentality fit with our hospital volunteer needs.
Student volunteers must work 72 total hours. This can be done over three months (typically, the summer) if six hours can be completed per week. This is dependent upon the hospital’s openings and student availability. If 72 total hours cannot be completed within that timeframe, we ask that after-school volunteer shifts begin prior to the school year ending in May/June or once school resumes in August, based on availability of student and hospital needs.
Examples of Guest Relations volunteer job duties include escorting patients, providing customer service support at the main desks and making deliveries to patients. On-the-job training will be provided after completion of the application, interview and employee health requirements.
