Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation at Indiana University Health Saxony Hospital specializes in the treatment of neurological and muscular disorders, including pre- and post-operative care programs. We offer inpatient therapy services at IU Health Saxony Hospital and outpatient services at the Medical Office Building adjacent to the hospital. Appointments are available at convenient hours to accommodate all schedules. Weekday hours are available from 7:30 am – 7 pm.

Our therapists work with hospitalized patients seven days a week. We generally see total joint replacement patients the day after surgery, or the same day, if the surgery is early in the day. We provide therapy twice a day after that time. Our goal is to get you to your top level of functioning, so that you are able to return home.

Our surgeons offer Total Joint Replacement Seminars where you can meet your joint replacement team, learn about treatment options and find out if you are a candidate for total joint replacement surgery.

As an IU Health patient, you have access to the latest advancements in rehabilitation techniques through our partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine. We also have developed ongoing professional relationships with local schools of physical therapy.

We treat problems and prevent future injuries by rebuilding your strength and endurance. Using innovative therapies and the latest research, we create personalized treatment plans that fit your needs and specific conditions. Our team of therapists works closely with you to help you achieve your treatment and rehabilitation goals.

The multidisciplinary team at IU Health Saxony Hospital Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation works with sports medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons and others to help you get better. Our inpatient and outpatient staffs share training, protocols and more to provide a seamless patient experience.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists are generalists—we treat everyone from individuals injured in an accident to patients rehabilitating from surgery. We have sports medicine specialists who work with high school athletes to weekend athletes. We treat people who have had concussions to help them heal.

IU Health Saxony Hospital also has a physical therapist that specializes in women’s health topics such as pelvic floor pain, incontinence issues and pre- and post-pregnancy concerns.

Our therapists are all ASTYM-trained in manual therapy techniques for sports medicine and overuse conditions.

Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapists at IU Health Saxony Hospital specialize in treatment of the hand, wrist and upper extremities. This may include splinting and outpatient individualized exercise programs to help patients regain function. Hospital patients receive training to help them recover the functions needed for daily living.

Speech Therapy

IU Health Saxony Hospital has Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) clinicians available to work one-on-one with patients. More commonly known as speech therapists, these individuals specialize in the evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.

Speech, language and swallowing disorders result from a variety of causes, including brain injury, stroke, hearing loss, developmental delay and others.
