Hospitalist Program
Indiana University Health Starke Hospital is proud to offer the Hospitalist Program for our patients. The Hospitalist Program is a team of physicians who specialize in caring for patients during their hospital stay. Hospitalists spend their day in the hospital and as a result, are at the forefront of care for hospitalized patients. The hospitalists do not take the place of primary care physicians but serve as partners in your care.
The hospitalists are in contact with the patients’ primary care physician on a regular basis during your hospital stay; notifying them of admission, giving updates, discussing medical histories, developing appropriate treatment plans and discussing discharge plans. Patients may speak with their primary care physicians at any time during their hospital stay. Patients return to the care of their primary physician upon discharge. Prescribed medications, follow-up appointments, and recommended treatment plans are communicated with the patient’s primary care physician at this time.
When a loved one is hospitalized, hospitalists are available to see patients and family members at times convenient to their busy schedules. Hospitalists assist patients through a smooth and speedy recovery process by following up with tests and course of treatment throughout the day.
