Are you ready for Super Bowl XLVI?
Navigating Super Bowl traffic
In addition to the Super Bowl game itself, downtown Indianapolis will host more than 130 public and private events beginning Saturday, Jan. 21, including the NFL Experience and the Super Bowl Village.
To help you navigate the streets of downtown Indianapolis during this exciting time, Indiana University Health recommends using the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee’s “Know Before You Go” website as your primary information source for road closures, transportation information and parking restrictions related to our city’s hosting of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, Feb. 5. These restrictions – many in effect as early as Thursday, Jan. 19 – may impact IU Health patients and visitors traveling to our downtown facilities for physician office visits, outpatient procedures/testing and surgery.
Here are some tips:
- Please plan ahead when traveling to IU Health’s downtown facilities in the weeks leading up to the big game.
- The usual direct routes into downtown Indianapolis may not be the best choice so please “Know Before You Go.”
- The majority of road closures and parking restrictions will take place between Jan. 27 and Feb. 5.
- The “Super Route” and “Bowl Route” – routes specifically developed to expedite downtown traffic during the Super Bowl timeframe – will move travelers around the edges of downtown and are designed to help travelers avoid the road closures.

Inpatient admissions and procedures will not be affected by Super Bowl XLVI. But if you have questions or concerns regarding an upcoming appointment, test or procedure, please contact your physician’s office or facility directly or call the IU Health operators at 317.962.5500.
Indy's Super Cure
The Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee has teamed up with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tissue Bank at the IU Simon Cancer Center to launch Indy’s Super Cure.
Indy’s Super Cure is designed to raise awareness about the tissue bank, increase the diversity of breast tissue donation and raise funds for the Komen Tissue Bank to advance breast cancer research. The Komen Tissue Bank, established in 2006, collects healthy breast tissue and blood donations that are then provided to breast cancer researchers globally. The data derived from that research is made available collectively to researchers.
Indy's Super Cure and the Komen Tissue Bank want to collect 700 tissue donations in a special Super Bowl event Jan. 28-29. For more information or to join the interested donor list, view the Komen Tissue Bank website.
