Patient Rooms
Most Indiana University Health University Hospital rooms are semi-private. This means you share your room with another patient. Private rooms may be requested, but they are not always available. Private rooms have an additional cost, which may not be covered by insurance.
Meals
IU Health University Hospital's room service, Classic Cuisine, offers patients the opportunity to choose daily what they want to eat and when they want to eat it. A room service menu will be delivered to you as soon as your nutrition ambassador is notified of your diet prescription. Please order the food that sounds good to you whenever you are hungry.
You may order a tray any time between 6:30 am – 7:30 pm. To place an order, please review the menu provided and call *33. Please allow up to 45 minutes after you order to receive your meal.
The expectation for meal service is that:
- You will receive the menu appropriate to your diet prescription.
- Your order will be taken by a call center operator when you dial *33.
- You will receive the freshly prepared meal that you ordered, delivered by a nutrition ambassador.
Your ambassador can answer questions on how to purchase guest meals for your family and visitors.
If you have any problems or concerns with your meals, please tell your personal nutrition ambassador so that they can make a correction. If your concerns are not satisfied, please call 317.944.2372 immediately to speak to a supervisor.
Visitors may also request a list of restaurants that deliver to IU Health University by asking for a copy of the Visitors' Guide.
Television
Flat-screen televisions with closed caption devices are available in each patient room at no additional charge. A complete list of available TV channels can be viewed on Channel 2. The television system features information about hospital programs and special events. Channels 71 – 75 broadcast patient health education shows.
Phone Calls
Cell Phones
Cell phone technology can affect the ability for medical equipment to function properly. For the safety of our patients, we ask that you do not use cell phones in patient rooms. You are welcome to use a cell phone in waiting areas, the cafeteria, lobbies and hallways. You will see nurses and other care providers with cell phones. These are medical grade phones, designed so they will not negatively affect hospital technology and equipment.
Telephone Service in Your Hospital Room
You can make free local outgoing calls, by pressing "9" followed by the local phone number. To ensure our patients are given time to rest, we block all incoming calls between the hours of 9 pm – 7:30 am. If someone needs to reach you during those hours, they may contact the IU Health University switchboard at 317.944.5000 for assistance.
Personal calling cards may be used to place long distance telephone calls. Dial 9 + 1 + toll-free number located on back of the card. Follow dialing instructions on the calling card or listen for dialing instructions. Collect calls may be placed by dialing 9 + 0 + desired telephone number and following the dialing instructions.
Pay Phones
Pay phones are available in the ambulatory outpatient center lobby.

Spiritual Care
At IU Health University Hospital, we never forget that our patients are much more than simply a disease to be treated or an injury to be healed. We know each patient is a unique person, with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Your personal clergy person or spiritual advisor is welcome to visit during your hospital stay, or you may request a chaplain's service.
Hospital chaplains are available to patients, their loved ones and staff, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is never a time that is inconvenient for a chaplain to respond to a need. You may let your nurse know if you would like to talk with a chaplain or call 317.944.7415 to request a visit. Chaplains are on-site Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm. To request a chaplain during evenings, weekends and holidays, call 317.312.8779.
The chapel is located on the first floor, south of the central elevators. It is always open for prayer, meditation or quiet contemplation. Roman Catholic Mass is celebrated on Wednesday and Sunday at 12:15 pm.

ATMs are located on the first floor of the hospital in the ambulatory outpatient center near the pay phones, outside of the cafeteria and outside of the gift shop.
