If you are admitted to an Indiana University Health hospital, one of our experienced hospitalists is available to help coordinate your care throughout your stay.

At Indiana University Health University Hospital, during your hospital stay, one of your main physicians may be a hospitalist with the IU Health University Hospital Inpatient Medicine Department––especially if you are being treated for a complex disease such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure or pulmonary illness.

Your hospitalist coordinates care with your entire team of doctors, nurses and medical providers, including physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers and anyone else involved in your care. The hospitalist collaborates with your primary care physician informing of your admission, treatment, discharge and any necessary follow up treatment.

Once you are discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist provides you with a brief summary of your stay to take home with you, including any information you need for follow-up care and medicines.
