Auxiliary

Members of the Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital Auxiliary were recently honored guests at a recognition luncheon at the hospital. The Auxiliary was formed prior to the hospital opening in 1956. It has served the hospital and community through the years.

The Auxiliary raised money in the early years by having a variety of fundraising sales. It also rented TVs to the patients and had a book/snack cart which they took to the patient rooms. All profits were used to purchase needed patient care equipment for the hospital.

The Auxiliary also hand-sewed “Pinky Puppets” for the children who were admitted to the hospital or were patients in the emergency department. These puppets are now being replaced with handmade bears.

Today, the Auxiliary continues to provide an invaluable service to the hospital. Besides its other contributions, it also labels countless boxes of chargeable items each month. They also give each baby born at the Hospital a baby spoon. The parents are given a badge to wear indicating whether a “boy” or “girl” was born. “Christmas babies” receive a Holiday bunting, which is also handmade. Most recently, these members have assumed the responsibility as hospitality greeters in the main Hospital lobby.

New Equipment

The IU Health White Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary donated money to purchase new equipment for the OB department. The money donated went toward purchasing a digital camera and cart for the OB department. This allows newborn photos to be taken in the room with the moms and families. It also allows new mothers to see the picture right away and get retakes if needed. The money also went toward two mini Metro Carts used for neonatal resuscitation. One is present at every delivery and is ready for any babies in trouble.
