Transitional Year Residency

The Transitional Year Residency at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital offers a one-year fundamental clinical skills experience, including medicine; intensive care unit; pediatrics or OB/GYN or hospitalist; general surgery; ambulatory medicine and emergency medicine.

IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is a major non-profit teaching hospital with 360 beds and the largest medical education program in Indiana outside Indianapolis. The hospital serves as a tertiary referral center and teaching hospital for east central Indiana.

Residency Location: A seven-county service area located in east central Indiana. This includes Muncie, a city of 75,000 with a university community of 20,000.

  • Average number of required formal conferences/seminars per week: 5 – 7
  • Average number of hours per week resident is on duty: 50
  • Resident call schedule: six months of the year with 5 – 8 calls per month
