What is Internal Medicine?

Internal medicine doctors are sometimes called “internists” or “general internists”. They treat adults aged 18 and older and cover all primary health concerns except surgery and obstetrics.

Internists provide care focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. They are trained to solve diagnostic problems and manage severe chronic illnesses. Internists focus on your coordination of care and refer to specialists, when necessary.
