Laura Lourdes, MD received her medical degree from the National University of Ireland. She then moved to Singapore for housemanship followed by internal medicine residency training with the National University of Singapore. She then worked at the Singapore Johns Hopkins Cancer Center for a year prior to moving to Gainesville, Fla. to pursue a second internal medicine residency with the University of Florida. Upon completion, she stayed an additional year as Chief Resident before moving to Indianapolis for a Hematology & Oncology Fellowship with Indiana University.
On graduation from the fellowship, she moved to Bloomington to join IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians to lead the Precision Genomics Program in the southern region in collaboration with the Simon Cancer Center.
Dr. Lourdes says she grew up in the big cosmopolitan city of Kuala Lumpur, and lived in Singapore. She and her husband are loving the quietness of Bloomington where they can raise their two young boys closer to nature. “I spend my free time gardening, cooking, baking and learning Spanish,” she says.
Her goals are similar to that spoken by a Dalai Lama: "Our prime purpose in life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them."
