Dr. Michael Duncan’s area of clinical expertise is in lung transplant and lung failure, including pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, and ECMO. He practices pulmonary/critical care medicine at IU Health Methodist Hospital. He is an assistant professor of clinical medicine in the IU School of Medicine’s Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Duncan is the medical director of the IU Health Lung Transplant Program as well as the IU Health Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Program. The pulmonary vascular program is the only program in the state of Indiana accredited by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) as a Pulmonary Hypertension Center of Comprehensive Care (PHCCC). He is also the medical director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program, which is the only Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) certified program in the state of Indiana. The ECMO program was named a Platinum Level Center of Excellence for extra corporeal life support in 2018. At that time, IU Health Methodist Hospital was one of only 14 programs registered with ELSO around the world to have earned this elite status and one of only four in the United States.

Dr. Duncan received his MD degree from University of Texas School of Medicine, Houston. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at IU School of Medicine and IU Health Methodist Hospital.

His areas of clinical research include the management of acute and chronic rejection in adult lung transplant recipients. He is also the principle investigator in numerous clinical drug trials for patients with pulmonary hypertension. He serves on multiple committees nationally including the PHA’s Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center Review Committee.
