Ryan K. Harrison, MD

As an orthopaedic surgeon, it is my privilege to care for patients of all ages with a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues, from acute injuries such as sprains, strains and broken bones to more chronic issues such as arthritis. I believe that it is important to partner with patients and their families to discuss their diagnosis after a thorough evaluation and develop a treatment plan as a team. I promise to work hard to ensure my skills are used to give patients an excellent experience during their time at Indiana University. Fracture care is a special interest of mine, and my area of fellowship training. I enjoy working with patients who have fractures at all stages of treatment, from new injuries to more chronic issues such as malunions (fractures that have not healed) and nonunions (fractures that have healed incorrectly). I find it very rewarding to guide patients as they go through the rehabilitation process. It isn’t always easy, but with the right mindset and team in place, anything is possible.

I joined the IU Health team after spending five years caring for patients at The Ohio State University. I am a native Hoosier and received my undergraduate and medical degrees from Indiana University. I moved to Columbus, Ohio to complete my residency in orthopaedic surgery and then completed an extra year of fellowship training in fracture care before rejoining the faculty at Ohio State. My time at OSU was rewarding, and it is an honor to have an opportunity to return to Indiana and care for my fellow Hoosiers.

When I’m not working, I like to spend my free time enjoying the outdoors and traveling with my wife and dog. I am an avid basketball fan and enjoy cheering on the Hoosiers.
