Chest Pain? Acute Heart Attack? Methodist’s The Place You Want To Be

We are IU Health

IU Health Methodist just became the first hospital in Indiana to be awarded a triple accreditation status by the American College of Cardiology.

IU Health Methodist Hospital has clinched a ‘triple threat’ status when it comes to heart care – an honor handed out by the American College of Cardiology.

The hospital was recognized by the college for its cardiac expertise and awarded three distinguished accreditations.

Methodist is the first hospital in Indiana to be awarded a triple accreditation status, giving it props as the place to go to be treated for the most complex heart and vascular issues.

“To earn accreditation, the cardiovascular team endured a rigorous self-assessment, data submission process and onsite evaluation to prove their ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with cardiac conditions,” says Parveen Chand, chief operating officer. “Achieving accreditation shows our commitment to provide the highest levels of quality care to our cardiovascular patients.”

The three accreditations earned…

  • Atrial Fibrillation v3 accreditation with EPS
  • Cardiac Cath Lab with PCI
  • Chest Pain with PCI

What it means…

  • Methodist provides full electrophysiology and surgical services. Electrophysiology studies test the electrical activity of the heart to find where an arrhythmia – an abnormal heartbeat -- is coming from.
  • The hospital performs routine, diagnostic catheterizations as well as emergent care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • The PCI designation means percutaneous coronary intervention is used as the primary treatment for acute heart attacks 24/7. This ensures rapid treatment in the cardiac cath lab to minimize damage to the heart muscle.
  • Methodist has a call team made up, among others, of the cardiac catheterization (cath) lab staff and an interventional cardiologist who will arrive within 30 minutes of activation.
  • As one of the highest-volume heart and vascular programs in the United States, IU Health is trusted with some of the most sophisticated procedures involving heart, veins and lungs.
