Neurology
Neurology treats problems with the brain and spine such as seizure, brain tumor, head trauma or stroke.
When Dan Stonehouse got connected with Dr. David Stockwell at IU Health, he had already undergone two herniated disc surgeries at another institution. "Usually most surgeons will give patients kind of a three strikes you're out," said Dr. Stockwell, an IU Health neurosurgeon. "If you have a disc herniation we will try to do a discectomy. If it comes back we'll repeat that discectomy, but the third time it's to the point where they've shown that they're not going to benefit from the standard, less invasive procedures, so then we move forward with a fusion."

Disc herniation and disc disease happen when the discs between the vertebrae in your spine become injured or damaged.
Pain can originate from a variety of causes, including sprains and fractures, dislocations, stress from overuse, obesity, and more.
