At Indiana University Health, our physicians diagnose problems that affect sleep quality and find solutions to improve sleep. We treat many sleep problems, including insomnia, sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome (RLS).
Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Sleep Disorders is staffed by professionals and physicians experienced and registered in the treatment of sleep disorders. Our sleep medicine doctors create a comprehensive treatment plan to address the causes behind your sleep problems and teach you proper sleep hygiene. Depending on your needs, you may be referred to a specialist who can help with an underlying medical condition or see a sleep psychologist.
Our facility is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic instruments to monitor sleep patterns, breathing, brainwaves, heart activity and eye and muscle movements. Your evaluation may include an overnight sleep study, a series of monitored daytime naps or a split night study.
Sleep studies, such as polysomnograms and multiple sleep latency tests, are conducted in comfortable private rooms with a television. These tests allow physicians to monitor your heart rate, breathing and muscle movements while you sleep.
Sleep study questionnaires may include:
- General sleep study
- Pediatric sleep study
- Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) sleep study
- Home sleep test (HST) sleep study
Accommodations for parents of pediatric patients are available. If your child is participating in a sleep study, we encourage you to stay overnight and to bring a favorite toy or “snuggly” to help your child feel more comfortable. Snacks are also available.
Our physicians conduct advanced research into sleep disorders through our partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine. This research gives you access to leading edge care and treatment so you can rest easy.
