Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital's emergency medicine services are among the most comprehensive in the country. From common acute illnesses to complex cases, our qualified staff is ready to assist you right away when you need help.

We're famous for our expert pediatric care and our ability to treat any problem a patient comes in with, including chest pain, possible heart attacks and strokes, trouble with breathing, abdominal pain, and cuts and gashes. We are prepared with rapid care protocols for heart attack and stroke patients. Our trauma care experts are on hand for individuals who experience traumatic injury.

We care for more than 100,000 patients a year in the IU Health Methodist Hospital ER. The emergency team is backed up by the complete services of IU Health Methodist Hospital from critical care, to a level 1 Trauma Center, surgery, neurology, cardiology, and rehabilitation.

IU Health Methodist Hospital accepts referrals from other emergency departments by calling 317- 962-1172. LifeLine provides ground or air transportation for patients in need of emergency care. Nearly 1,500 critical patients are brought to our hospital by air each year.

Our Intensive Diagnostic Treatment Unit allows for extended observation of patients who are too sick to go home but not ill enough to be admitted. Only 10 to 15 percent of emergency facilities in the country have this unique service.

Furthermore, it's our exceptional level of care and dedication to each and every patient who comes through our doors that helped the IU Health Methodist Emergency Department earn a 2012 Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association. The award recognizes emergency departments that exemplify dedication and high performance in the areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy and results. Only eight emergency departments in the country were awarded this honor.
