IU Health is the state’s leader in comprehensive cancer care. Through our partnership with the IU School of Medicine, your patients have convenient access to the latest treatment protocols available. Our physician researchers are currently advancing the study of gynecological oncology by investigating better biopsy techniques and earlier diagnosis for ovarian cancer.
Each year, new advances in surgical technology and therapeutics in gynecological oncology are improving survival for these patients. IU Health is active in this leading-edge research to develop clinical trials and make new ones available to our patients who are facing ovarian, cervical, endometrial and vulvar cancers. Our offerings help patients avoid the need to travel to another academic health system to access innovative treatment.
We employ traditional approaches as well as the latest novel treatments to create a personalized care plan for each patient. From advanced laparoscopic surgery to robotic approaches, our team has extensive experience in caring your patients’ needs, from routine procedures to the most complex.
Dr. Lisa Landrum shares about our commitment to a multi-disciplinary approach and access to clinical trials in treating gynecologic cancers.
If your patient has advanced cancer (i.e. metastatic or high risk for recurrence), our team may refer them to the IU Health Precision Genomics program for somatic-genomic testing. By examining the genetic structure of a patient’s tumor, our Precision Genomics team can discover specific mutations that can be targeted with therapy, and then work with you to implement personalized treatment options for your patients. Rather than addressing your patient’s cancer based on where it’s occurring in the body, Precision Genomics looks at what’s driving the cancer on the genomic level.
In addition to this customized approach to cancer treatment, this program also provides comprehensive germline genetic counseling to uncover hereditary cancer syndromes for those deemed to be at risk. When identified, our team works with other IU Health services to identify at-risk family members who are appropriate for cascade testing and surveillance to help prevent or detect a cancer at its earliest stage possible.
Our multidisciplinary team specializes in treating cervical, ovarian, endometrial and vulvar cancers. At IU Health, your patients have access to a variety of treatment options, including:
Continuity of care for your patients is important at IU Health Gynecological Oncology. Our physicians will perform your patient’s surgery and direct next steps in therapy, which may include immunotherapy or chemotherapy, so your patient maintains the same caregiver throughout. Our multidisciplinary teams meet in a weekly conference to discuss care and reach consensus on treatment plans tailored to fit your patient’s needs.
At IU Health, we treat the whole patient. The CompleteLife program offers patients comprehensive and compassionate support, education and guidance throughout their care, while tending to their emotional, social and spiritual needs.
