Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss

Weight loss support and surgery options, tailored to your needs

At IU Health, we deliver the highest quality of care and compassion if you are obese or overweight.

We've been named a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program—Accredited Center. That means our program is recognized as having a track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.

We offer a customized approach to surgical weight loss. We also offer a non-surgical, medically-supervised weight loss program at IU Health Arnett Hospital and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for those who do not qualify for or who may not want surgery.

All bariatric surgeries are performed laparoscopically (unless there is a medical reason not to do so). This means many small incisions are made instead of one large incision. This typically results in less pain, a faster recovery and less scarring.

Our team will be with you on your weight loss journey. Our experts are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care, compassion and support for you. We want to promote vital, long-term success.

Many of our surgeons are recognized as leaders and educators in the field. They have performed thousands of weight loss operations. They are published in numerous academic journals and textbooks. All staff members are committed to the science and art of caring for morbidly obese and overweight patients.

Some of our staff have had weight loss surgery. Their personal perspective allows them to share valuable knowledge and advice.

Bariatric surgery can be a tool used to help you achieve your weight loss goals. But pursuing surgical weight loss is not for everyone. We will give you the information you need to make the choice that is right for you.
