Alex Harris, OTR, OTD

Alexander Harris OTR, OTD, is an occupational therapist with the IU Health Neurorehabilitation & Robotics clinic, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of neurological conditions including:

• Stroke
• Traumatic brain injury
• Neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s and MS
• Spinal cord injury

He has a special interest in acute stroke with particular experience treating newly onset stroke patients in the inpatient setting. In addition, he has experience in implementation and research into adaptive technology such as virtual reality integrated therapy.

Alex works with patients of all activity levels to help them improve strength, coordination, fine motor skills, vision strategies and functional performance with self-care tasks.

Patient Goals & Functional Outcomes

Treatment is individualized to each patient's goals, with a focus on daily function and quality of life.

Common patient goals may include:

• Returning to work
• Returning to hobbies or recreational activities
• Improving independence with self-care and daily activities
• Improving strength and range of motion
• Improving hand function and dexterity
• Improving coordination

Education

Alex received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2017.

He completed his graduate degree (Doctor of Occupational Therapy) at Indiana University - Indianapolis in 2022. Alex completed his doctoral capstone on research into the implementation of virtual reality into inpatient OT treatment.
