Biography
Cara is a doctorally prepared women’s health nurse practitioner and AASECT certified sexuality counselor. She has worked clinically in women’s health, sexual medicine, vulvovaginal disease and urogynecology. She currently sees patients with PATH4YOU, Indiana's statewide contraceptive access project. She also serves as the Director of Clinical Quality at Health Care Education and Training (HCET), a nonprofit focused on improving reproductive and sexual health outcomes throughout the Midwest. Using and advocating a trauma-informed approach has been central to her philosophy of care since early in her career when she worked as a certified sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) at the Cleveland Clinic. Continuing this work, she now serves as the Director of Midwest Trauma-Informed Training Center (MTITC) through Health Care Education and Training. She is a proud fellow of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. Cara teaches frequently in community, academic and professional settings on various sexual health, women's health and trauma-informed care topics.
