Biography
Dr. David R. Diaz, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in consultation-liaison psychiatry. He serves as an attending psychiatrist at IU Health University Hospital, where he integrates medical and psychiatric care for patients with complex health conditions. A dedicated educator, Dr. Diaz is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a co-founder and associate program director of the school’s ACGME-accredited Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Diaz serves as Associate Medical Director for the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction, where he contributes to statewide mental health policy and systems improvement.
A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Diaz has held numerous leadership roles in organized medicine. He is a past president of the Indiana State Medical Association, the Indianapolis Medical Society and a four-time past president of the Indiana Psychiatric Society. His advocacy has focused on expanding access to quality mental health care and supporting physician well-being.
Dr. Diaz’s clinical interests include integrated care models, psychiatric treatment of medically ill adults and mentoring the next generation of physicians. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to compassionate care, professional service and the advancement of psychiatry.
