Biography
Emily Smith, MS, OTR, is an occupational therapist at IU Health Neurorehabilitation & Robotics Clinic at Goodman Hall Neuroscience Center. Emily completed her undergraduate studies at Purdue University, then attended IUPUI, where she obtained her Master of Science degree.
Emily has 13 years of experience in occupational therapy, working across multiple settings including inpatient rehabilitation, acute care and outpatient rehabilitation. Emily specializes in treatment of neurological conditions, including (but not limited to):
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
- Parkinson's Disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Neurosurgical patients
- Neuromuscular diseases (such as muscular dystrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple systems atrophy, etc.)
Emily works on a variety of treatments with her patients to facilitate their recovery, and some of those include:
- Activities of daily living retraining
- Adaptive equipment/durable medical equipment evaluations & education
- Upper extremity function (including use of robotics therapy)
- Functional mobility/functional transfer training
- Cognitive retraining
- Vision retraining
Emily’s favorite thing about working with the neuro population is that it allows her to be creative with her treatments and recommendations, as no two neuro patients are the same.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling and reading.
