Biography
Dr. Khalid Katranji, MD, is a highly-skilled neonatologist at IU Health, specializing in neonatal - perinatal medicine. Since beginning his medical practice in 2013, he has dedicated his career to providing exceptional care for the most vulnerable patients.
Dr. Katranji earned his medical degree from the University of Alexandria in Egypt. He then furthered his training through a Pediatrics residency at Cabell Huntington Hospital, followed by a Neonatology fellowship at OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois. Today, he is board-certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in neonatology, making him a trusted expert in his field.
With a strong focus on NICU and pediatric care, Dr. Katranji has always been fascinated by the miracle of life and the unique challenges that come with caring for newborns. His approach to neonatology involves a combination of cutting-edge technology, evidence-based medicine, compassionate care and aiming to improve the outcomes of newborns and their families. He finds immense satisfaction in witnessing the remarkable growth and development of babies under his care, from their first breath to the moment they are discharged home.
Above all, Dr. Katranji is deeply committed to centering his patients in the NICU and providing them with the best possible care. He collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and ethicists to deliver high-quality, holistic care. Respecting the uniqueness and dignity of each baby and family, he supports informed choices and preferences. He is particularly passionate about enhancing the quality of life for newborns, especially those who are premature, critically ill or have complex medical conditions.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Katranji cherishes spending time with his wife and three children. He fell in love with Lafayette for its warm and friendly community.
