Biography

Kimberly D. Shelton, NP, became a nurse practitioner after working at the bedside for 30 years, primarily in the cardiovascular care unit as a charge nurse and nurse educator.

Prior to her career as a bedside nurse, she graduated from Vincennes University with her Associate of Science in Nursing and then got her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University. While working as an RN she obtained her Acute Care Master of Science in Nursing from Southern Indiana University and worked as a hospitalist in Evansville for a couple of years following.

Missing her time in Bloomington, Shelton returned to the IU Health Cardiology group as a nurse practitioner on the night shift.

Shelton covered:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiovascular surgery
  • Vascular surgery

After bouncing between cardiology and the hospitalist group for a couple of years, she has found her place back with cardiology in the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic, where she continuously works to improve access to care, optimize quality of life for patients and prevent recurrent hospitalizations.

Shelton has three children and six grandchildren. When not working, she spends her time off with her family, cooking and gardening.
