Biography
Dr. Laurie Gutmann, MD, is a board-certified neurologist with over 30 years of experience in neuromuscular medicine. Her care philosophy centers on truly listening to patients—understanding their history, concerns and questions—to guide a thoughtful and thorough neurologic evaluation. She emphasizes the importance of reviewing outside records prior to visits and tailoring the neurologic exam based on the patient’s narrative. Whether a diagnosis is treatable or not, Dr. Gutmann ensures that every patient leaves feeling heard and informed.
Dr. Gutmann earned her medical degree from West Virginia University and completed her Neurology Residency at the University of Virginia. She holds board certifications in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular medicine through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). She currently serves as Chair and Professor of Neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine and is Co-Director of the IU School of Medicine Neuroscience Institute.
