Biography
Dr. Thomas Lu is a board-certified gastroenterologist. Dr. Lu earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship training at the University of Chicago Medicine.
Dr. Lu provides comprehensive care for a wide range of digestive disorders, including:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn’s disease
- Celiac disease
- Chronic diarrhea and constipation
- Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- Liver disease
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Colon polyps
He also performs colon cancer screening and prevention. In addition to diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal conditions, Dr. Lu performs a variety of endoscopic procedures including:
- Upper Endoscopy (EGD)
- Colonoscopy
- Video capsule endoscopy
- Esophageal pH monitoring
One of Dr. Lu’s primary clinical interests is the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. These chronic conditions require ongoing, individualized care to control inflammation, prevent complications and improve quality of life. Dr. Lu partners closely with his patients over the long term, developing personalized treatment plans that help them achieve sustained remission and lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
