INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana University Health continued advancing patient access, care affordability, and long-term financial sustainability during the first half of 2026. Financial results reflect operational improvements as well as ongoing investments in workforce stability, electronic health records and new access points.
IU Health reported operating revenue of $5.08 billion, a 7.4% increase year-over-year. Operating expenses increased 9.3%, totaling $5.04 billion. Total operating revenue exceeded expenses, resulting in an operating margin of 0.72%, a decline compared to the prior year. At the same time, operational performance improved through the second quarter as surgical volumes and physician productivity strengthened.
Even as healthcare organizations across the country continue to face inflationary and reimbursement pressures, IU Health remains committed to reducing the cost of care for Hoosiers. Through its multi-year care affordability initiative, IU Health has delivered more than $1.4 billion in savings while maintaining access and quality across the state.
“In today’s healthcare environment, we must continue to evolve and plan for the unexpected,” said Jenni Alvey, senior vice president and chief financial officer. “Our long-range financial planning and strong fiscal stewardship allow us to continue to invest in the health of Hoosiers and communities across the state. As we work to determine how legislative changes could impact our organization and patients, we will continue our commitment to care affordability and accessibility.”
