IU Health announces new CIO and ACIO

INDIANAPOLIS – David Burton has been named the new chief information officer (CIO) for Indiana University Health, effective Feb. 9. David brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leveraging data and technology to create business value, making him the ideal leader to guide Informatics and Information Services forward. As CIO, he will lead the health system’s digital transformation efforts to improve the healthcare experience.

David is an accomplished healthcare executive with 25 years of technical, operational and financial leadership experience. He’s been an integral part of IU Health since 2001, most recently serving as chief revenue officer, where he was responsible for the strategic and operational leadership for IU Health’s patient care revenue.

David earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, graduating with honors from The Ohio State University, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at OSU.

In addition, Amar Nagaram has been named associate chief information officer, also effective Feb. 9.

Amar has been an integral part of IU Health for nearly four years, aligning IT initiatives with the organization’s strategic goals to drive improvements in patient care, operational efficiency and financial performance. His leadership has built a skilled and diverse IT team while fostering innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

He holds two master’s degrees, one in electrical and computer engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and another in health informatics from the University of Minnesota.
