IU Health announces new regional operating model, supporting investments to advance patient care

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana University Health has announced a new regional operating model and supporting investments as it continues expanding its healthcare footprint in Fort Wayne, Fishers and downtown Indianapolis.

IU Health’s new regional structure will transition from six regions to four to improve patient care models and better align with future expansions. The transformation is part of a broader effort to drive continuous improvement benefiting Hoosier patients.

“As the state’s largest and only academic health system, IU Health is focused on making Indiana one of the healthiest states in the nation. Investing in our communities is at the center of our approach to improve health,” said IU Health President and CEO Dennis Murphy. “We are adjusting our regional structure to strengthen our clinical care models and effectiveness, to improve talent pipelines and career pathways for team members, and to continue making investments in technology—all with the aim of advancing patient care.”

The regional operating model updates are accompanied by a number of important, mostly non-clinical, role and functional adjustments across the organization that will help make IU Health more effective systemwide. Some new roles have been created, some existing roles will change, and a relatively small number of mostly non-clinical leadership roles will be eliminated. Affected team members would ideally continue their career with IU Health by finding an open position in the system.

Among the operating model updates is an enterprise growth and activation function that will support system strategy execution at the regional level. IU Health’s revised structures also will support a new job architecture effort to enhance career mobility and reduce the healthcare industry talent shortage.
