Lafayette, Ind. – IU Health Arnett Hospital has earned recertification from The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. This designation, which includes The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Stroke Certification, is awarded to hospitals that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes by meeting the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
“Arnett Hospital’s recertification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center reflects our long-standing commitment to providing the highest quality stroke care,” says Leslie Holdcraft, stroke program coordinator for Arnett Hospital. “Stroke care is truly a team effort, and this recognition is a testament to the dedication each of our team members bring to every patient, every day. When someone is experiencing a stroke, every second matters, and we’re proud to provide rapid, evidence-based care close to home.”
Arnett Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review earlier this year, during which a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards.
Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
In addition to this achievement, Arnett Hospital also received the American Heart Association’s Gold-Plus Get With the Guidelines® – Stroke Quality Achievement Award earlier this year, further highlighting the hospital’s consistent delivery of evidence-based care that improves outcomes for stroke patients.
Stroke is the fifth-most common cause of death
and a leading cause of disability in America. Strokes happen when the blood supply to the brain is blocked or when a clot in a blood vessel to the brain bursts—depriving the brain of blood and oxygen and killing brain cells, which can lead to permanent disability, brain damage or death. Early detection and treatment are crucial to improving chances of survival and minimizing disability.
