Stability First grant presentation

Members of IU Health and Stability First gathered in Martinsville on Thursday, Nov. 16, to commemorate a $593,000 grant focused on helping others.

The grant from IU Health will be given to Stability First over three years to renovate a building in Martinsville as a shelter for men with mental health needs, substance use disorder or criminal histories. The men will receive housing, health care management and program services.

“This is a transformational gift for us, doubling the impact we currently have,” said Rick Miller, Stability First Executive Director.

Diane Buzzell, MA, CFRE, IU Health Foundation Director of Philanthropy for the South Central Region said, “Helping to support organizations like Stability First is just one way IU Health is working to make Indiana a healthier state. We’re excited to see how their efforts will impact both individuals and the community at large.”

Stability First operates a similar shelter for women, Magdalen House. Additional co-funding has been secured by IU Health Foundation for the project from Craig and Connie Fenneman, Home Bank, Lisa and Kevin Arnold, Dan and Judy Moore and Pinnacle Treatment Centers, among others.

The grants come from the $200 million Community Impact Investment Fund (CIIF), which is administered by the IU Health Foundation to address key social and environmental factors that impact people’s health outcomes. Yearly grants from the foundation come from earnings on the fund’s invested capital.
