Last week, Indiana University Health LifeLine tested the new helipad at IU Health Frankfort Hospital officially declaring it open.
An on-site helipad has been incorporated on the southwest corner of the parking lot of the IU Health Frankfort Hospital. The helipad was part of the construction project that took place once the legacy building was removed.
An onsite helipad is a vast improvement. Patients will no longer need to be shuttled off-site to the helicopter via an ambulance. An on-site helipad improves safety by decreasing the number of handoffs and by decreasing the transport time to the patient’s destination.
Fun fact: the latest helicopter aviation safety system technology was installed on the tops of the parking lot lighting. As the IU Health LifeLine helicopter begins its decent, it will be able to turn on the approach lights as well as the landing pad lights from afar.
