INDIANAPOLIS – U.S. News & World Report rankings of ‘Best Hospitals’ for 2024-2025 again name Indiana University Health Medical Center the #1 hospital in Indiana. U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 31 specialties, procedures and conditions to create its rankings.
IU Health Medical Center (comprised of IU Health Methodist, University and Saxony hospitals) is honored to have four specialties recognized as high-performing specialties – Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics and Neurology & Neurosurgery. In addition, the medical center was recognized as Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access. This is a new recognition category for U.S. News, highlighting the important and necessary work hospitals are doing to improve care for underserved communities. Only 16% of Best Regional Hospitals earned this award.
U.S. News also rates hospitals for 20 common procedures and conditions, and IU Health Medical Center was rated as high performing nationally in 11 of 20 procedures and conditions:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Colon cancer surgery
- Heart failure
- Hip replacement
- Kidney failure
- Knee replacement
- Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
- Lung cancer surgery
- Pneumonia
- Prostate cancer surgery
- Stroke
Other IU Health hospitals rated as high performing for specialties or procedures and conditions are:
- IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital: High-performing in COPD, heart attack, hip replacement
- IU Health Arnett Hospital: High-performing in congestive heart failure and pneumonia
- IU Health Bloomington Hospital: High-performing in heart attack and pneumonia
- IU Health West Hospital: High-performing in heart attack and pneumonia
- IU Health North Hospital: High-performing in hip replacement and prostate cancer surgery
The annual rankings, now in their 35th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or common elective procedures.
