IU Health Paoli Hospital launches apprenticeship program

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, three south-central Indiana high school sophomores started on the road to healthcare careers via a new three-year paid apprenticeship program at IU Health Paoli Hospital.

Made possible through a partnership between IU Health Paoli Hospital, the Indiana Career Apprenticeship Pathway (INCAP) and Regional Opportunity Initiatives (ROI), the program combines classroom instruction and meaningful, hands-on healthcare experience.

“At IU Health, we are committed to cultivating the next generation of healthcare talent by supporting schools and programs that empower students to build meaningful, successful careers,” said Matt DeGolyer, MPH, Indiana University Health Manager – K-12 Talent Programs. “Our partnership with INCAP strengthens Indiana’s talent pipeline for critical healthcare roles and equips students with the skills and experience they need to thrive.”

The students—Shyler Dhall, Maci Nissley and Natalie McPeak—will earn their high school diplomas with the Employment Honors Plus Seal while completing their apprenticeships. They shared their excitement to explore the variety of career opportunities healthcare offers while gaining hands-on experience.

The apprenticeship program is designed to help expand career-connected learning and strengthen the healthcare workforce.
