INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 9, 2020) – U.S. News & World Report has named IU Health Plans one of the best insurance companies for Medicare Advantage for 2021.
The designation from the publisher, known for its business and education rankings, honors health insurance companies with Medicare Advantage plans that are rated at least three out of five stars by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicare Star Ratings and have an average rating of at least 4.5 stars within the state.
IU Health Plans is one of two plans in Indiana with this designation. The plan prides itself in their attention to diabetes care and preventive measures for A1C levels, diabetic eye exams and blood pressure. Other work groups focus on breast and colorectal cancer screenings initiatives with the IU Health system, specifically member outreach.
“We’re really proud of those who helped deliver this impressive outcome, including the IU Health Plans Medicare Advantage and quality teams, the IU Health population health team and our many physician and advance practice provider partners who deliver high-quality care every day,” said IU Health Plans President Stephanie Motter. IU Health Plans Medicare Advantage plan currently provides healthcare coverage to about 14,000 Medicare-eligible Hoosiers.
For Medicare Advantage members, this designation and Star Rating will reflect in the value of benefits they receive. They will allow the Plan to continue providing more incentives to members for preventive screenings and additional benefits, including meals after a hospital discharge.
“We’re working to transform Indiana into one of the healthiest states in the nation. The collaboration between our IU Health physicians and advanced practice providers and IU Health Plans gets us one step closer to seeing our vision come to life by providing valuable, long term and preventive care,” said Greg Kiray, MD, senior vice president of Community and Population Health and Chief Medical Officer of System Clinical Services at IU Health.
Medicare Star Ratings help consumers evaluate Medicare Advantage plans and how they compare among each other. Criteria include member satisfaction, doctor success in detecting illnesses and keeping members healthy and how well a plan helps members use recommended and safe prescription medications.
