Press Release

IU Health regional president Ryan Nagy, MD, accepts new role at Boston Children’s Hospital

January 06, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS -- It is with mixed emotions that Indiana University Health announces the upcoming departure of Dr. Ryan Nagy, president of the Metro Region and interim president of Riley Children's Health, who has accepted the role of president, system chief operating officer and member of the board of trustees at Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals as consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Since joining IU Health 13 years ago, Dr. Nagy has been an instrumental leader with a transformational impact. Under his leadership, the organization has significantly improved performance in quality and safety, created and implemented innovative programs to improve the lives of patients, made breakthrough advancements in medical research, and began construction on the new downtown Indianapolis hospital project that will combine and replace aging IU Health Methodist and University hospitals.

"Dr. Nagy has been a visionary leader committed to excellence, innovation and improving patient care during his tenure," said Dennis Murphy, president and CEO, IU Health. "His unwavering dedication to our patients, staff and the Hoosier state has left an enduring mark on our system and the community. We are certain that Dr. Nagy will continue to inspire and make significant contributions in his new role."

The opportunity at Boston Children’s is a testament to Dr. Nagy’s exceptional talent. While we are saddened by his leaving, we are also incredibly proud and excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead for him.

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and experiences I've gained at IU Health,” says Dr. Nagy. “I look forward to leveraging those experiences to help shape the future of care at Boston Children’s."

Before Dr. Nagy transitions to his new role, he will work closely with Michele Saysana, MD, who will serve as interim Metro Region president while a national search is conducted to find his permanent replacement. Dr. Saysana, former chief medical officer for IU Health Methodist and University hospitals, will stay heavily involved in IU Health Medical Group leadership, but David Ingram, MD, will assume interim responsibility for her duties as senior vice president of Academic Medicine and executive associate dean for Clinical Affairs at IU School of Medicine. In its search, IU Health will seek to find someone who possesses the character, leadership skills, experience and commitment to excellence Dr. Nagy has demonstrated during his tenure.

Please join us in extending our deepest gratitude to Dr. Nagy for his immense contributions to IU Health and in wishing him success in his new role.
