Michele Saysana, MD, named president of IU Health Physicians

INDIANAPOLIS – After a national search, Indiana University Health and Indiana University School of Medicine are pleased to announce that Michele Saysana, MD, has been named Senior Vice President of Academic Medicine and Executive Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, a role traditionally titled IU Health Physicians president. The appointment is effective Oct. 1.

Since November 2022, Dr. Saysana has served as chief medical officer at IU Health’s adult academic health center in downtown Indianapolis, ensuring the highest standards of quality and service are achieved for patients, physicians and providers at IU Health Methodist and University hospitals. Her extensive experience in quality and safety has made a tremendous impact on our team members and patients.

Dr. Saysana joined the IU School of Medicine faculty in 2006 and has held various roles throughout her time at IU Health, demonstrating consistent leadership and professionalism. In 2017, Dr. Saysana was named vice president and served as IU Health's first chief quality and safety officer. She is also a professor of pediatrics. She previously co-chaired the IU Health Physicians Quality Committee, served as the chair of the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety Board of Directors, and she co-led the Riley Physicians Quality Network. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Indiana University and a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Until Oct. 1, Kevin Gebke, MD, will continue to serve as interim president of IU Health Physicians in addition to his role as senior vice president of Community Medicine.
