IU Health Arnett earns three-year Perinatal Levels of Care Level III certification

May 12, 2026

Indiana University Health Arnett has been awarded a three-year Perinatal Levels of Care Level III certification by the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), confirming the hospital meets requirements for both Obstetric Level of Care III and Neonatal Level of Care III.

Level III certification marks Arnett’s third consecutive designation at this level and recognizes the hospital’s ability to provide advanced maternal and neonatal care.

“Achieving Level III certification is significant because it confirms that our teams have the advanced clinical expertise, staffing, equipment and specialty services required to care for complex maternal medical conditions, obstetric complications and infants who require neonatal intensive care,” says Arnett Chief Nursing Officer Star Meyer, JD, BSN, RN. “This certification reflects the extraordinary work of our teams across departments, from Labor and Delivery to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, who consistently meet rigorous state standards and maintain a high level of readiness year after year.”

This designation allows more mothers and babies to receive care close to home, reducing the need for transfers and supporting stronger continuity of care during critical moments.

Indiana's Perinatal Hospital Services legislation, which took effect in September 2019, requires all hospitals providing obstetric and neonatal care to be certified as Level I, II, III or IV, based on the services they offer. These designations help expectant mothers and their providers make informed decisions about where to receive care.
