Press Release

Star ratings launched for IU Health facilities

July 03, 2019

IU Health has expanded its online patient star ratings to its facilities. All facilities, from large hospitals to small clinics and departments, will be rated by patients.

Initially the new star ratings aim to cover about 450 facilities across the IU Health system. Eventually all 600 locations on the iuhealth.org website will be rated once they receive at least 30 consumer ratings.

Extending star ratings to facilities is the next step in amplifying IU Health’s online presence and providing teams with more direct access to patient feedback, which helps improve care. Star ratings also give patients easy online access to learn about IU Health facilities and the highly skilled physicians at IU Health, so they can make an informed decision.

Ratings are calculated from patient experience surveys of IU Health patients. Last year 425,000 patient surveys were done. Star ratings use 24 rolling months of survey data and include an average of all responses to the ‘Likelihood to Recommend’ question on the patient experience survey. The new ratings are available for each facility under the location section of iuhealth.org.

Last year, IU Health began offering star ratings and patient comments as part of its physician profiles online. The physician ratings and comments have proven highly successful, providing a greater level of transparency for patients as they make decisions on where to receive care. Star ratings also give IU Health physicians more control over their online reputation and enhance their visibility online.
