Tipton, Ind. – On Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, Indiana University Health Tipton Hospital marked 75 years of caring for the Tipton community.
Tipton Hospital’s legacy
IU Health Tipton Hospital opened in October 1950 as the 48-bed Tipton County Memorial Hospital, founded in honor of the county’s servicemen and women.
75 years later, although the types and levels of care at Tipton Hospital have evolved, one thing remains the same: a commitment to providing members of the Tipton community with quality care, close to home.
“For 75 years, IU Health Tipton Hospital has been more than a hospital—we’ve been a neighbor, a partner and a constant in the lives of Tipton families,” says IU Health Tipton Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer Liesel Delamater, DNP, RN, ACNS-BC, NE-BC. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also looking ahead to how we can continue to serve and grow with our community.”
An investment in Tipton’s future
The anniversary celebration included a celebratory ribbon-cutting by the Tipton County Chamber of Commerce, a formal proclamation from Tipton Mayor Kegan Schmicker and the announcement of a $100,000 donation from the IU Health Tipton Medical Staff. This gift will support the city’s work to build new community baseball fields, reflecting the Medical Staff’s personal commitment to nurturing health and wellness beyond hospital walls.
“This donation helps ensure that this milestone isn’t just about honoring our past—but also investing in our future,” says IU Health Tipton Medical Staff President Addison Haynes, DO, MBA. “We’re proud to continue supporting the health of our community in meaningful ways.”
