Emergency Medicine Residency Program

IU Health is pleased to partner with Indiana University School of Medicine, helping to train future healthcare providers. Resident physicians, who have earned their medical degree and are undergoing additional training, are working in the emergency department and may see you during your visit.

A resident physician is a licensed doctor who has graduated from medical school and is currently receiving advanced training in a specific area of medicine, such as Emergency medicine, Internal medicine, or other specialties. Medical Residents work under the supervision of board-certified doctors, known as “attending physicians,” to grow their skills and knowledge in a medical specialty.

Residents care for patients, write treatment plans, review test results and are an active part of your healthcare team. Because they work closely with attending physicians, you receive the benefit of multiple medical professionals reviewing your care.

Both the resident and the attending physician will address your diagnosis and treatment plan.
