Amir R. Hajrasouliha, MD

Dr. Amir Hajrasouliha is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon and associate professor of ophthalmology at Indiana University School of Medicine. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, inherited retinal disorders, ocular trauma and complex vitreoretinal conditions in adults and children.

In addition to his clinical practice, Hajrasouliha serves as director of clinical research for the Department of Ophthalmology and is actively involved in advancing new treatments for retinal disease. His research focuses on innovative therapies for vision restoration, diabetic eye disease, retinal degeneration and artificial photoreceptor technologies. He has led and collaborated on numerous clinical trials and federally funded research projects aimed at improving outcomes for patients with blinding retinal disorders.

Hajrasouliha is committed to education and mentorship and has received multiple teaching awards for his dedication to training the next generation of ophthalmologists and retina specialists. He serves as director of the vitreoretinal surgery fellowship and is an active member of national and international ophthalmic organizations, including the Retina Society. He also regularly presents his work at scientific meetings.

Hajrasouliha completed postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Southern California's Institute for Genetic Medicine and the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Harvard Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville and fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Retina Consultants Ltd. and Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
