Biography
Dr. Daewoong Lee, MD, earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He trained at the University of Chicago for an internal medicine internship, at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital for an anesthesiology residency, and then at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for an interventional pain medicine fellowship.
He is the only board-certified pain physician in the region, and additionally earned double board-certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is double-board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. Dr. Lee emphasizes that pain is a subjective experience, and thus, when a patient reports pain, she or he does indeed have pain. Many painful conditions arise from arthritis, surgery, accident, cancer, diabetes and other health issues. He will tailor treatments for each patient.
In his fight against chronic pain, he employs state-of-the-art technologies based on the latest research evidence. Some of the procedures that he offers include the following:
- Spinal Cord Stimulation

- Basivertebral Ablation
- Interspinous Spacer Implant
- Kyphoplasty
- Ultrasound-guided Peripheral Nerve Blocks
- Fluoroscopy-guided Injections
- Sympathetic Blocks

Publications
Dr. Lee has authored eight chapters in Specialty Imaging: Acute and Chronic Pain Intervention, a leading image-based reference textbook for interventional pain physicians. His peer-reviewed work spans interventional pain medicine and perioperative anesthesiology, with publications in journals including Pain Medicine and Neurogastroenterology & Motility, and presentations before the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the International Anesthesia Research Society. Topics have ranged from complications of fluoroscopically guided epidural steroid injection to perioperative risk assessment, aspiration of gastric contents in the operating room and national trends in access to elective surgical procedures.
Dr. Lee's research background began well before medical school, with published work in tropical ecology and space physics, a reflection of the broad scientific curiosity he brings to his clinical practice today.
