Biography

Dr. Joshua Adkinson grew up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Ursinus College and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biology while earning membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended Jefferson Medical College and graduated in 2006. He completed a General Surgery internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and later completed a Plastic Surgery Residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He went on to the University of Michigan to complete a renowned hand and microsurgery fellowship, focusing on complex reconstruction for both adult and pediatric patients.

After completing training, Dr. Adkinson joined the faculty at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. His practice was based exclusively at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, where he practiced general plastic surgery and upper extremity reconstruction for children. He was subsequently recruited to the Indiana University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Chief of Hand Surgery in the Division of Plastic Surgery in 2016. He is also Chief of Plastic Surgery at Sidney and Lois S. Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Adkinson is interested in complex upper extremity reconstruction in adults and children. He primarily practices at Eskenazi Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. Dr. Adkinson is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with a Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Adkinson has published 38 peer-reviewed articles and 16 book chapters in plastic surgery and hand surgery and serves on multiple committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has also given over 20 regional and national presentations on topics including hand surgery, hand trauma, and general reconstruction.
