Biography
Dr. Bilimoria is the Chair of the Department of Surgery and the Jay Grosfeld Professor of Surgery (tenured). He is also the Vice President for Surgical Quality for the Indiana University Health system. His clinical practice is focused on melanoma and skin cancers, sarcoma and soft tissue tumors, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. He has published more than 400 scientific articles, including numerous publications in JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine (h-index=71). Dr. Bilimoria’s research is funded by the NIH, AHRQ, and numerous others totaling >$35M. He is a past president and executive board member of numerous national surgical and oncologic societies. Dr. Bilimoria returned to Indiana University Health in 2022 after spending nearly 20 years at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago. He received numerous accolades for his clinical care and considerable praise from his patients for his bedside manner and expertise. He was also awarded Mentor of the Year by Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine in 2020 and has been listed by Becker’s as one of the “Top 50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety” in the U.S. In his free time, Dr. Bilimoria enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife and three children. He frequently coaches his kids’ sports teams, and he can be found on a bike trail if any free time arises.
His clinic interests include melanoma, skin cancers, sarcoma, soft tissue tumors, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors.
