Kaustubh S. Limaye, MD, FAHA

Dr. Kaustubh Limaye is board-certified in vascular neurology and neuroendovascular surgery who specializes in management of subarachnoid hemorrhage, unruptured aneurysms, carotid stenosis, ischemic stroke and intracranial hemorrhage.

Dr. Limaye's belief – “the best way to learn is to teach” has been instrumental in him taking up teaching, since the days of being a house staff. His teaching skills have been well appreciated by medical students, residents and fellows at various medical schools that he has had the good fortune to be associated with.

He has won the “Resident Teacher of the Year” and “Resident of the Year” awards at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences primarily for teaching. At University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine he was awarded the “Faculty Educator of the Year” and then a year later was awarded the prestigious “A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award” by the American Academy of Neurology. He continues to cherish both bedside clinical as well as classroom teaching equally and would continue to do so in future.

Another important aspect of a physician’s career trifecta is research. Dr. Limaye has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications (journal articles and book chapters) that have been published in some of highest impact factor journals in the field on cerebrovascular diseases. He has been invited as a panelist, moderator and speaker for local, national and international meetings and has been invited to present his work at these meetings. He was elected chair of American Academy of Neurology's Endovascular and Interventional Section, which he also served for two years as a vice chair before. He currently serves as national Principal Investigator for PROMISE (PROspective Study on Management of Ischemic Stroke Secondary to mEvo Registry), he also serves as PI for many other national clinical trials.

Lastly, and the most important of the trifecta, service! Dr. Limaye became interested in caring for stroke patients after being inspired by his grandfather. He saw what difference it makes with difficulties in triage, especially in developing countries. Inspired from his grandfather’s post-stroke struggle, he decided to train as a vascular and an interventional neurologist/neuroendovascular surgeon.
