Biography
Dr. Matthew J. Mellon, MD, FACS, is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his Urologic Surgery Residency at Indiana University, where he was extensively trained in robotic, kidney stone, oncologic and reconstructive procedures. In addition, Mellon completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the IU-Simon Cancer Center. During training, he was the 2010 Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award recipient. In 2023, he received the IU Trustee’s Teaching Award for excellence in medical education.
Mellon is a diplomate by the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Urological Association, Endourological Society and Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons Society. From 2022-24, he served as President of the Indiana Urological Association. He has published extensively in leading medical journals and popular lecturer and at national professional meetings. He is a Professor of Urology at Indiana University School of Medicine where he serves as Director of Trauma and Reconstructive Urology and Chief of Urology at Methodist Hospital. His practice interests place particular emphasis on reconstructive surgery of the urinary tract and urologic trauma management.
Mellon joined Indiana University Health in 2012. His hobbies include spending time with his wife and three children, ice hockey, golf, photography and military history.
